Duke of Edinburgh Awards

If you are aged between 14 and 24 and completing your Duke of Edinburgh's Award, have you thought of completing a sailing expedition? We’re a DofE Approved Activity Provider (AAP), meaning that we can work with you to reach your goals.

Ideally located on the East Coast, we can support individuals to complete their DofE awards (any of our Explorer or Tall Ships voyages could count as a DofE Gold residential) and we can give groups the opportunity to undertake challenging sailing expeditions as well.

At the same time, whilst you’re preparing for the award, we’ll teach you a range of new sailing skills, meet new friends and ensure you have fun along the way.

So, if you’re interested in including sailing as part of your DofE award, what options do you have?

DofE Award – Team Sailing Expeditions

If you'd like to put together your own expedition with a group of friends, we can assist you by giving you the necessary skills you need to carry out your sailing expedition. With this in mind, both you and your team will be well on the way to achieving your award.

You will spend 10 days onboard completing your Training, Practice and Qualifying modules. We expect that you have been sailing with us before or have basic sailing knowledge. If this isn's the case, we recommend you enrol for the online RYA Basic Navigation and Seamanship Course but please speak to us first.

If you are a school or group who all wish to undertake your Expedition together, we would be pleased to hear from you. We can accommodate 9 participants in a boat and these will be split into two watches (equivalent to land based expedition teams).

DofE Award – Residential

This involves spending at least 5 days and 4 nights away from home on a shared activity with people you’ve never met before – join as strangers and leave as friends.

You can qualify for the DofE Gold Residential Award on board by joining our longer Explorer and our Tall Ships voyages lasting at least 7 days. You can read all about other participants experiences on this site and can also find us on YouTube to see what we get up to.

You and the rest of the crew are responsible for all aspects of life on board, from steering the boat and navigation to cooking, keeping the boat clean and tidy, getting the sails up and rowing ashore. Our qualified sea-staff will show you exactly what you need to do. There’s plenty of time to chill out on deck after all the work is done, play games or go ashore and explore.
